  My work as a freelance Web Designer has been a job title that encapsulates a variety of roles including front-end engineer, graphic/UI designer, implementation engineer, site builder and web developer— all working on the front-end codebase and graphics UI. About 50% of my work has revolved around the traditional web design role — designing the user interface through the use of sketches, wire-framing, creating the graphical components, developing working prototypes, and coding the html/css/graphics for final delivery to the clients front-end engineers and/or web developers.  The other half of my job has not only been the role of designer, but also implementing the design and maintaining the client’s website, often using CMSs such as Drupal, Joomla and WordPress.

  Devise/implement a procedure for converting publications from QuarkXPress (Mac-based) to Adobe FrameMaker (Windows-based). This includes transferring illustrations from Macromedia Freehand (Mac) to Adobe Illustrator (PC). Create, revise and maintain training materials including Tech Manuals, Reference Handbooks, Operating Handbooks, & Training Guides. Prepare documentation for distribution on CD/DVD and through the internet.

   Developed concepts, design web page layouts and on-line content, user interface graphics, icons, color schemes, content and infrastructure for new product releases and new web-hosted product offerings.   Senior member of a Web design team charged with creating, implementing and maintaining the look and feel of the travel booking sections of GetThere’s customer Web sites and intranets. Collaborated with stakeholders throughout the company to develop quality- and efficiency-oriented processes resulting in consistent excellence; worked with product managers and clients to define product requirements and design goals; lead a team of developers to implement innovative, easy-to-use Web sites, staying current with evolving Web standards and research. Worked with software developers to produce new features and enhanced the existing product line. Also served as Web Design Manager from 2001 through 2002.

  Designed/produced/maintained SimuFlite’s Web sites (simuflite.com and quickt.com), developed market-focused content & created graphic design to support Web content, created online forms using CGI, collaborated with interdepartmental personnel to develop creative ideas for Web sites. Designed and produced Communications publications, including internal and external newsletters, advertising, brochures, course syllabuses and various marketing materials. Produced presentations to support department, interdepartmental and upper-management marketing and training needs. Produced courseware materials including training guides, reference handbooks, and technical manuals. Organized and coordinated writers, illustrators, photo coordinator, subject matter experts and production vendors, all activities required to meet publication deadlines.

Designed and created graphics for proposals and presentations conducted by city management.
